I sent in a support ticket a few days ago regarding the extreme lateness of my payment and this is what I was sent in return:

Your payment is in a queue and it is paid by first come first served basis. You must wait for those people requested before you to be paid.

Please do not submit multiple tickets regarding your payment. It does not speed up your payment submitting more than 1 ticket about your payment.

We cannot predict when you will receive your payments because of the queue length and work load. You will get a better idea when you will get paid through this tracking system.

I thought that I might check in and let everyone know just how my Bux.to account has been growing since April. In the past 4 months my refs have seen steady growth, mostly from people signing up using my referral code as a way of saying "thanks" for the info on the website. I have to give a huge shout out to all of my refs past and present, cause its you guys who make the system work! Thank you so much!

When the experiment ended in April I had acquired 25 refs, that number has now grown to 35! Some old refs have stopped clicking, and some new refs are clicking machines!

After receiving my first cash out of 11.69 cents, I immediately requested a second cash out of all the money I had "earned" while blogging away, waiting for the first cash out to arrive. I ended up requesting a cash out of 63.65! Not bad!

According the cash out date calculator, I should have been paid on July 7th. That was 3 days ago. I am a little nervous, as is my nature, but Bux.to was almost two weeks late last time, so I will give them the benefit of the doubt...for now.

Throughout this experiment I have read many different testimonials about Bux.to. Many, like those put out by Bux.to themselves, seemed too good to be true. Stories of users who had invested hundreds of dollars and seen a near instant turnaround resulting in thousands of dollars in profit. Some of the testimonials were profanity laced ranks, many of which can be found in the comments section of this very site, and describe Bux.to as a company out to take your money and stab you in the back.

Rarely would I find a testimonial that lay somewhere in between those two extremes. I hope that this blog will serve to fill that gap.

A quick recap: I signed on to Bux.to on December 14th 2007. The next day I had purchased 15 unrefered members for about 16 dollars. By Dec 28th I had crossed the 10 dollar threshold and requested a cash out of my account.

Then we played the waiting game. Bux.to waits 60 business days before paying it's standard members so I was not due to be paid until March 27th 2008. We had a lot of time to kill.

By the time March 27th rolled around, anticipation was at a fever pitch, would I get paid? Was Bux.to a scam? The 27th came and went. No money. I became restless. As the days went by, I began to make bolder and bolder statements regarding Bux.to and in turn, Bux.to supporters became increasingly more defensive. Hell broke loose.

Two weeks after the 60 business day payment deadline, I decided that I would have to make a judgment call at some point, a hard line answer to the title question: Is Bux.to a Scam? Yes or No.

I set a deadline at May 4th but that deadline became obsolete almost as soon as I had created it.

I got paid.

I want to be able to stand on my little virtual soapox and yell, "It works! It works! It really works!" but I hesitate. Maybe it's all of the animosity and distrust so many people seem to have for Bux.to. Maybe it is the rudeness and childishness that I've been met with by Bux.to's forum administrators. Maybe it's the way Bux.to's terms of service change without public notice and include clauses that allow them to disable Bux.to user accounts without warning or reason.

For all of the above reasons I have to say that while I have been paid by Bux.to I still do not really trust them. However, whether or not I personally trust Bux.to isn't really the issue is it?

Hard deadline announced. May 4th.

Just to give you guys a heads up: I am taking off to Japan for about a month and a half on May 4. I won't be able to post from then on so that date will be the absolute end date for this experiment.

MAY 4th the experiment ends. On May 4th, you will get up and check this site and I will make a big bold statement about my conclusions. Obviously whether or not I get paid between now and then will have a lot to do with what will be said.

Also, just incase anyone was wondering, I still have not been paid, and my support ticket has still gone unanswered. There have been some reports of Alertpay being responsible for the hold on being paid, anyone have any ideas as what might be holding up a response from Bux.to support?

I've added a new poll, check it out on the sidebar. And in case you're wondering, I still have not been paid, and there still has been no response from Bux.to support.

Its kind of weird to be in this situation. Here I am about to reveal the truth about a company that is either A) illegally fraudulent, or B) just grossly incompetent. At this point it almost doesn't matter if Bux.to is a scam or not, because you simply cannot expect a smooth experience from dealing with them.

Even if they do pay (which is increasingly unlikely as every minute passes) I cannot in ANYWAY recommend them as a genuine stream to make money.

Interestingly, I tried a few whois searches on bux.to and while I havn't got anyone's name just yet I did discover that the most people who visit the site are from Chile.

Well we are certainly not going to let Bux.to off the hook, but I have to confess something to all of you-- I screwed up. My calculation of the payment deadline was off by a few days, I think I may have forgotten to include a few holidays that would have increased the deadline to March 27th.

Thanks a lot to the anonymous reader who pointed me in the direction of www.buxtopayements.com, a Bux.to payment date calculator. I punched in December 28th as the date of my payment request and here is what was returned:

Now, even though they still have two more days, I sincerely doubt that I will be paid on time, however, in all fairness I would like to take this moment to apologize for claiming that Bux.to is a scam (even if it was in small, subtle type) when the deadline hadn't passed.

I will still give them a week from the 27th to scrounge up the money.

Also, I would like to mention that I wrote to Bux.to support about my lack of payment a few days ago and I have still not recieved a reply. One more strike against Bux.to.

Deadline is up. And I have not been paid.

If you've been following this experiment you may have noticed a pattern in the referral activity. When refs first sign up they are super active, clicking as much as they can everyday, but then, after a few months, they seem to barely click at all. This pattern certainly holds true for my clicking as well.

Well the rumors were flying, but they turned out to be true and false. Basically, Paypal did eliminate all of the accounts of every PTS website. Period. What this means is that in order to purchase something from Bux.to whether it is referrals or ads, you'll have to use AlertPay, which sucks.

However, this does not mean that Bux.to can't still pay you with PayPal, meaning that every currently pending payment request will still be paid through Bux.to. So don't worry about not being paid...yet.

It is a worrisome when a company like PayPal decides it no longer wishes to provide Bux.to its services. It is basically PayPal drawing a line in the sand that says, "On this side stands legit business like Paypal and on that side stands shady businesses like Adbux and Bux.to."

Okay, on a more serious note: There have been some grumblings lately about Bux.to's PayPal account being suspended do to the amount of complaints that PayPal has supposedly received from members claiming that they had not been paid.

I have inquired about this in the Bux.to forums and was actually bitched out by a Bux.to staff members for, and I quote, "spreading bullshit." Read it HERE.

For starters, I am not surprised that Bux.to would hire someone as rude and arrogant as this asshole Mindfreak88. Bux.to doesn't understand anything about service and has never given any respect to it's members, so it comes as no shock that they would pay this idiot to represent them.

That aside, I am putting out the call to the readers who brought this rumor to my attention to please explain where you got your information and preferably to give us a link to some sort of published evidence that Bux.to's PayPal account has been suspended.

A few things to mention while we all sit and calmly wait for the countdown clock to expire. First of all Bux.to announced today that they are holding a website redesign contest. The designer of the winning design stands to earn somewhere between 10 - 1000 refs. Sounds shady? I have to say that it is kind of crazy that 25% of people believe that Bux.to is immature enough to simply cancel an account because of petty griping. Although reader Bill Roman did bring to my attention that Bux.to even states in their TOS (4th point):

"We have the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time, for any reason and without warning or notice. If we decide to give a notice, we will notify you by e-mail...Please note due to the proprietary nature of our monitoring system, we're not able to disclose any detailed information nor discuss the reason."

That is damn scary.

A: Unfortunately, I will only receive the 11.49 I requested. And since I have to wait until the payment is sent before making another request I'll have to wait another 60 business days before being paid whatever has my account has gained while I've been waiting for the 11.49, which sucks.

anonymous asks: Do your purchased referrals appear on your referral list or do they remain hidden?

A: They will appear on your referral list, but only after the payment has been processed by Bux.to. If it seems like a long time has passed and you still don't see your refs appearing on your list you'd better contact Bux.to support. For all my bitching and whining, they have been very good to me.

A: Hmmm... well they both certainly look like a Bux.to affiliated sites, and Bux3 even uses the exact same descriptions and examples... BUT Bux.to has recently released a list of affiliated websites and neither Bux3 or Linksbux.com were not on it.

My current suggestion is to avoid until further information is released, this could just be a scam, trying to capitalize on simply looking and sounding like Bux.to.

bill roman asks another: When paying by paypal it shows that you are making payment to "freelancermarketing.com". What exactly is this site?

A (from the forums): It is official name for the bux paypal system. probably a started business with a paypal business account which has been kept over time. Bux.to has a lot of weird little things like this going for it, but I don't think that this particular one points to anything truly suspect.

A: Beats me dude. But I have to admit that I have given consideration myself to using some of the click money I've earned to use towards putting up ads. As for how Bux.to can make any real money from it's system is a question for the ages. But I think alot of it has to do with selling ref packs as well as signing up premium memberships.

tom asks: If Bux.to vanished, I wonder what would happen if you filed a dispute with Paypal for not having received the goods. Would you be able to get your 16dollars back for buying the referrals?

A: I doubt it Tom. Thing is I paid for 15 referrals and that is what I got. What I didn't pay for was any sort of earnings guarantee. I've been very lucky and Bux.to has been very kind to me and has replaced my inactive ref without question (something that I should mention more often) and I think their goodwill combined with the lack of any guarantee puts the kibosh on any dispute.

Well my very first poll has come to a close and the results are somewhat surprising. Out of the 86 people who voted over 53% of you said to wait until I got paid before buying more referrals. 37% said to buy immediately, and 8% did their best to convince me to not buy any referrals at all (and one person was all like, "Meh. Whatever").

Well these poll results combined with the new and very sketchy 60 day TOS amendment has led to my decision to NOT purchase anymore refs until I see that 11.49 I requested.

I am very upset with Bux.to right now.

A few days ago, they silently changed their Terms of Service so that it now take 60 days to receive payment for standard members. Sorry-- 60 business days, to receive payment.

I wouldn't be upset if they had sent their members an email, or posted a notice on their website, explaining why the change was nessessary. But they didn't. They changed it without any indication whatsoever and hoped that it would blow over with as little attention as possible.

Naturally, it didn't. The Bux.to forums were alive, my friends. Alive with rage.

Bux.to then decided that the best thing to do was remove all of the threads that were critical of the new TOS. That's right, CENSORSHIP.

I am very upset with Bux.to right now.

They still have not issued any explanation.

Waitaminute-- 1, 2, 3, 4, 5... 17! Yes my beautiful babies, we have acquired a new ref! No doubt thanks to this very blog, our new ref is off to an unbelievable start of 28-- 28!? WTF!? Our new ref must have signed up for the premium membership, which entitles them to at least 20 ads a day as well as .0125 cents per click instead of the standard .01 cents.

Two days ago I put in a request for payment for the 11 dollar I've accumulated so far with Bux.to. But Bux.to will only issue the funds after 30 business days! The official Bux.to statement as to why it takes so damn long to pay has to do with auditing the account.

How could it seriously take 30 freaking days to audit an account? What are they looking for that takes 30 days to find? And the fact that they need 30 business days implys that they are auditing manually which seems flat out retarded. Yes, I just used the word retarded.

Bux.to needs to get their crap together and audit automatically, or continually audit active accounts in order to speed up payment times.

18 days of 5 minutes of work per day has netted us 13.92, subtract the 16 dollar investment and our total for the Bux.to experiment stands at ($2.08). Of course this only matters if we actually get paid. I've put in a request for payment a few days ago and Bux.to says it will take approx. 30 business days to process (which seems like a ridiculously long time if you ask me), hopefully sometime in early Feb we'll see our Paypal account increase ever so slightly.

You know, I was just sitting here looking at my stats and something occurred to me: I click every damn ad I get every day. I am talking about 10-15 pages per day that are offered to me and that I click, netting me 10-15 cents. But when I look at my refs, most of them only click 7-10 pages per day-- and that makes no sense whatsoever.

Some interesting update though: I wrote to Bux.to support recently regarding my inactive referral and surprisingly they gave me a free replacement referral! They had absolutely no obligation to do this but they did anyways!

I am super impressed with Bux.to on that one, they basically just gave away money that they didn't have to give. Way cool!

Our friend Dangerstud (aka James) left an informative comment on my last post and I want to make sure that everyone checks it out as it has some crucial info about claiming your cash:

I saw your message and ok there are a few things I have to warn you about. Only recently I heard that your subscription email MUST be the SAME as the paypal email account, otherwise you'll loose the funds if they don't arrive.
Another thing is the 30 business days. which actually are only monday to friday. It actually means 6 weeks. I asked for payment the 14th of december friday, just my luck, Christmas and New Year in between so those days don't count and if I've missed any other American holidays I won't know before February the 1st.
This is a long walk, like walking the last mile...so close and yet so far.

Bux.to will only let you cash out once you have hit the ten dollar mark, so while I've be reporting on how much I've "earned" I haven't actually received any money, or even been able to request any money-- until now.

Over the past few days we cracked the 10 dollar mark, and in the spirit our "is-bux.to-a-scam" experiment, I have now requested a transfer of funds from my Bux.to account to my Paypal account.

Bux.to states that it will take up to 30 business days to receive the money, and this is really where the experiment begins, as Bux.to has a very poor reputation from not paying it's members.

In thirty business days it will be February 8th and of course I'll keep you all posted on all my Bux.to related happenings.

Well, this isn't so much a report as to how much I made since yesterday (like all of the previous earning reports) but more of a "look at what's happened in the last week" kind of report.

The Eight day of our little project and we have cracked the 5 dollar mark! That may not seem like much but It took me freakin' months to do that with adsense, although that is probably a testament to my crappy internet marketing skills than anything.

It does raise a good point though, this really has been the easiest money I have made on the internet to date. You may want to consider getting in on the action.

After 8 days, and less than 20 minutes of work, we are looking pretty at 5.32, subtract that from our 16 dollar investment and we're at ($10.68).

After 5 days and I would estimate 15 cumulative minutes of work, I have earned 3.26 with the Bux.to program. Unfortunately I invested 16 bucks on the fist day, so our total take on this experiment is at ($12.74). I hope one day I can look back at those red figures and laugh.

Something also occurred to me today: In order to really find out if Bux.to is a scam, I'll need to request payment, but payment can't be requested until I hit 10.00.

Day 5: MotherF***ing Red X!

When I first started this project five days ago I was scanning through the Bux.to Forums and I noticed that a lot of people were complaining about getting a red X instead after the 30 second countdown instead of a green check mark.

Now I hadn't had any problems with getting a red X, I had simply followed all the instructions and was always rewarded with a green check-mark, just like I was supposed to. I figured that these people who were complaining were either trying to cheat the system somehow, or were just not following the instructions properly.

Unfortunately for me, I was wrong. Today that ugly red X showed up again, and again and again. I was absolutely no trying anything underhanded and I was following the exact same steps I had on days 1-4 but for whatever reason I could not generate my beloved green check-mark.

I have looked through the Bux.to forums and have discovered two disturbing facts: 1) There is no official word from Bux.to as to why this happens, or how to prevent it. and 2) No one has any idea why it happens, but everyone seems to think they know how to stop it.

Which is straight up pathetic Bux.to. Seriously.

Eventually after simply, retrying and retrying and retying, the red X has gone away and the green check comes back, but man! FUCKING IRRITATING!

Luckily for me my Refs were nice active last nite and managed to generate 65 more clicks, making their total contribution $2.34. If these guys all maintain their current output then I will be a very very happy young man.

I mentioned this yesterday, but notice how that one guy (third form the top) still has done nothing for the cause? Well I recently discovered that you can actually send messages to your refs through their Bux.to account. I sent him a short message asking him if he was having difficulty with the system and if he needed any help. Of course the problem with this is that he actually has to sign in to Bux.to to read the message, so he may never get it if he's given up completly....

At the end of Day 4, we had a good day today, with some very active referrals making us 70 cents and with our own clickage helping the cause we are not looking at a balance of 2.47. But, as usual we must take into account that we spent 16 bucks to make 15 unrefereed members our own, so our grand total for this experiment is now @ (13.53). We're gonna break even one day, baby!

As a side note: If you are reading this and considering signing up, let me say this to you: There is absolutely no disadvantage to you if you become my referral. I am someone's referral and it hasn't cost me a one red coveted cent.

After four days of clicking away, desperate to make a measly dime, I have noticed something about the Bux.to system.

Everyday, as a standard member, I am offered approx. 10-12 pages to view, and I make a single cent from each one. Out of those 10-12 pages, 5-6 of them are internal Bux.to pages promoting their own system.

I certainly appreciate this as someone who has referrals working for him because this hopefully keeps them motived to continue to come back day after day and click, click, click.

Just something that I noticed that I thought I would share.

Day 4: Referral Activity

Here we are on our 4th day of seeing what we can accomplish with the Bux.to Pay-to-View service and this is our third day of employing referrals to help generate those coveted clicks.

Yesterday I expressed some concern over the dip in activity by my refs. They had gone from 55 clicks on their first day to only 44 the second. Thankfully they have bounced back in full force, generating a whopping 70 clicks! Not bad people!

Notice how that one jerk hasn't clicked on anything at all. Why did you sign up in the first place!? Gaaawd. Won't you be my referral?

Day 3: Earnings

Well, I got 45 clicks out of my referrals, and I managed to pull off a few clicks of my own as well. I am ending the day at a $1.63 but I can't forget that I did spend 16 bucks of my 15 referrals so my grand total for this experiment is now at (14.37).

Just an hour earlier I reported that my referrals hadn't done jack in over 24 hours and that I was beginning to suspect Bux.to of foul play, but I can safely say that I spoke too soon. I just recheck my stats and my referrals have been active and have made me another 41 cents. Woo hoo!

Hopefully they'll click a little more and either meet or beat yesterdays 55 cents. Won't you be my referral? I'd really appreciate it!

Day 3: No referral activity...

Well, I checked my Bux.to stats this afternoon to see what my purchased referrals have been up to and apparently the answer is nothing. 24 hours have past and not a single one of them has clicked anything.

When I first checked the referral stats, right after I had purchased them, I was really surprised that I had made 50 cents, it just seemed too easy. Now I have a strange feeling that those 50 cents were a red herring provided by Bux.to... We'll have to wait and see.

I am not counting out these referrals yet, but it certainly seems strange that with so many of them being so active the day before and now none of them are active at all...

I'll do some searching on the forums and see if I can find an explanation.

Day 2: Earning

So after tallying up my referral's earnings, plus my own clicks, I am now sitting pretty at $1.06.

Unfortunately I have invested 16.00 dollars like a total sucker. So I am officially sitting in the red at ($14.94). Ouchy.
